Update – Great news Annie the elephant is being released and will live out her days in Longleat with the Born Free foundation. Well done everyone, now lets help all the animals to be free from circuses, read the info below and follow the lonk

Here is the email from the RSPCA

The plight of Anne the elephant has captured the heart of the public.  We are delighted to announce that Mr Roberts has agreed that Anne can be rehomed to a place where she will feel safe and secure.

Animal protection groups and Mr Roberts have agreed that Anne will be handed over to Longleat Safari Park as an immediate place of safety, where her condition can be assessed and she will receive veterinary attention.  Longleat has facilities to house Anne and provide her with a secure environment with the best possible veterinary care.

At a meeting on 30 March 2011, Animal Defenders International (ADI), British and Irish Association of Zoos and Aquariums (BIAZA), Born Free Foundation, Longleat, RSPCA and Specialist Wildlife Services, discussed the best options for this elderly elephant who has endured so much.  It was agreed that steps should be taken to move Anne as soon as possible, with the priority being Anne’s welfare, safety and freedom from stress.  Therefore the move will be carried out away from the public view.

We thank you again for your email and for your support in our campaign for a ban on the use of wild animals in circuses.   Kind regards RSPCA HQ Advice Team

Many of you would have seen the disturbing footage of a beautiful elephant called Annie being beaten and kicked on the news and on the web, I myself cried at this poor friend being treated so badly and I decided to put this on my blog so that all you good people out there can sign this petition to free Annie. Personally I feel there is no place in our day and age for circuses, they are just outdated and barbaric just like bull fighting and bull running. I pray for the day when we treat animals with the highest respect because they are more intelligent, and loving than us humans.  Thank you.

You can contact Northampton RSPCA and ask that Annie be removed ASAP and that you are behind them. http://rspca-northamptonshire.org.uk/contact-us/4542751868

Annie the Asian elephant was filmed being struck with a metal pitchfork, kicked in the face and body and shackled by heavy chains in the winter quarters of the Bobby Roberts Super Circus in Polebrook, Northamptonshire. Images show the elephant being hit 48 times and reveal a poor feeding regime, Now I watched this video and I was angry I can’t put into words just how angry I was, Annie is such a beautiful Elephant very mild and I know that she must be very loving and tender her nature is far better than mine as she lives with this abuse but I will not stand for it and I know that you guys wont either its time she was taken away from this place and allowed a nice life a loving life a SAFE life. Help me fight this my fellow warriors.

Animal Defenders International (ADI). brought the video to the public and I thank them for that, we need warriors like you out catching this scum so we can stop it and free these animals so well done to you guys.  Annie’s tragic story symbolises the plight of circus animals and is a shocking indictment of the circus industry at a key time as government considers a ban on the use of wild animals in circuses.

I ask the Governments to make sure that Annie and all Circus animals be released to wildlife sanctuaries where they can life a free and happy life, so they can be safe to live and love and to be loved, they are not here for the entertainment of people, We need to save life, be the voice for those who have none and protect the weak. With respect always James Howie.

Annie needs to spend her last few years in a safe and friendly enviroment. To be loved and cared for which she so rightly deserves. So lets stop this cruelty.

  2. Stephen Roberts says:

No living being should have to suffer thus cruelty. There should be no let up in the campaign to allow Annie to live her last years in peace and dignity. Free her from the circus now

Annie needs to be released from her captive hell and let her go to people that will love and take care of her,she should never have been treated like this it is barbaric and so so cruel God bless her and get her out of that circus now and then shut the circus down and never let another animal endure the suffering she has had to endure.

This poor elephant needs to be rehomed as soon as possible! She needs to have the love and care she deserves! NO animal should be treated like that! Let’s stop this cruelty NOW!!!!!

I am delighted to see that Anne is to be re-homed. A huge thanks to all involved in the rescue

However, wonderful news as it is, I do think it is important that the culprits who have cynically allowed this situation to continue must also made an example of… AND I mean all of them!

Just because the owner has now finally agreed ( publically shamed into!), to old anne’s re-homing should not be a reason for not taking action against him.. (and also the actions of his employees, who he was responsible for). A situation that tragically had been going on for many many years, and which were previously reported some 5 years ago! Moreover, where Mr. Roberts the owner (EVEN THEN, also denying all knowledge of any wrongdoing), gave worthless and thus callous assurances for Anne’s future welfare.
