Energy Secretary Chris Huhne today outlined a series of measures to improve energy efficiency, boost renewables and allow new nuclear projects to go ahead as he laid out the Government's energy policy. In the first annual energy statement to the Commons, Mr Huhne set out plans to secure the UK energy supplies and cut carbon emissions while "keeping the lights on". The Department of Energy and Climate Change also published a series of "pathways" for how the energy system might look in 2050, outlining the scale of the challenge of meeting the legally-binding target to cut emissions by 80% by mid century.
