Britain is at risk of being left behind in the race to develop green energy because of the failure to invest in new technologies, Government advisers have warned. The Committee on Climate Change (CCC) said the only way Britain will meet legally-binding targets to cut greenhouse gases by 80 per cent over the next 40 years is to invest in low carbon technologies like offshore wind, electric cars and solar panels. But whilst the rest of the world is pumping cash into research, the UK spends less than one per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) on developing new technologies. In comparison the US spends three times as much of its national income on green energy.
