Articles, Poems & Information > Supported Campaigns

These are just some of the campaigns that we support and those that help to bring about a peaceful and safer Earth for all.

Against Animal Testing

Although vegan/vegetarian, we do not force our views on those who chose the other option but we are strongly against animal testing. Vivisection is pointless in the current climate where so many alternatives are on offer, especially since the consumer is more willing to purchase a brand that states "THIS PRODUCT HAS NOT BEEN TESTED ON ANIMALS".

If you are concerned about animal testing, seek an alternative as many supermarkets and other companies provide products which are cruelty-free.

The following DO test on animals :

  • Proctor & Gamble
  • British Petroleum
  • Christian Dior
  • Clairol
  • Colgate Palmolive
  • Gillete
  • Givenchy
  • Glaxo Smithkline
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Nestle (L'Oreal, Helena Rubinstein, Lancome, Laboratoires Garnier)
  • Novartis (Ovaltine)
  • Reckitt Benkiser
  • SC Johnson
  • Unilever (Calvin Klein, Cheesboro' Ponds, Elida Gibbs, Helene Curtis)
  • Wella
Please also see Talking Point - Animal Testing by Denise Tansley on animal testing and associated products. For more information, please see Uncaged Campaigns

Stop Whaling

You may wonder why there is still a need to stop commercial whaling. Well, in fact, commercial whaling doesn't exist except countries such as Japan still catch the Sea's finest and largest creatures in the name of science. Several hundred whales (and more) cannot be killed every year in the name of science! Japan has started their practice again in the seas around Antartica, contrary to environmental opinion.

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society actively demonstrates and tries to thwart Japan's illegal whale hunt - please see Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

Please visit Stefan's website for some magnificent photos of whales that he has encountered on his trips with the Center for Whale Research.

Save The Chimps

We were touched by the hardwork and dedication of the people at the Centre for Captive Chimpanzee Care. They gained custody of 21 chimps from the Coulston Foundation (a laboratory with the worst record in the history of the Animal Welfare Act) after the US Air Force decided to stop their research with chimpanzees. The chimps now live in a sanctuary in South Florida out of harm's way.

Please support them in any way you can and check out their website SaveTheChimps.org.

APAG

Asociacion Pretectora Amigos de Gatos (Spain)
This association is based in Gatos and Denia in eastern Spain and they are dedicated to saving any cats that are abandoned or found stray. Their objectives are :
  • To check the rapid breed of the "basura" cats (birth control), to vaccinate and to put to sleep dangerously ill cats.

  • To find new homes for abandoned cats or for those left without a home due to the owner's sudden death or illness.
Presently they cannot receive cats as their cattery is still missing!

APAD

Asociacion Pretectora de Animales de Denia y Comarca (Spain)
The association APAD was founded in 1991 thanks to an international initiative. Basically, their work exists to treat abandoned animals medically and give them shelter in their sanctuary. Since the existence of the association, they have managed to give shelter and place over 2,500 dogs. A result of which they are very proud.

The work is only possible thanks to the financial support of members as well as the tiresome work of their volunteers.

Day by day, dogs are left at their sanctuary either abandoned or people get tired of their pet. For all of them, scared, worried, abandoned or sick, they are there to help them, when necessary around the clock. They check the dogs to see whether they suffer from Leishmaniosis. After that, the animals are dewormed and then inoculated with the necessary vaccinations.

This kind of help costs a lost of money and therefore they depend on voluntary donations. They are also looking for volunteers.

You can visit them at the "Poligono Industrial" Juyarco 36-B (on the way to La Xara). You can join them at :
  • The sanctuary
  • The Monday market in Denia
  • Restaurant Antiguo, Plaza Benidorm 4, Denia
You can contact them at :

Return The Parthenon Marbles To Greece

The Marbles were part of the Parthenon (Temple of Athena Parthenos) in 432BC. Between 1801-1804, Earl of Elgin removed the marbles and sent them to England, under the disguise that they would be safer there than in Greece. He used them to adorn his Scottish manor but sold them in 1816 to the British Government to pay off his debts.

The British Government has refused to allow the marbles to return to Greece despite proposals submitted to the Greek Government that they should pay for the shipping costs and build a new museum to hold them. The Greek Govt has agreed to these terms and work is under way to complete the building of a new museum by 2004 to house the marbles in the shadows of the Parthenon. Depsite 90% of 100,000 callers in a British TV poll, and incredible support from British MPs, the UK Government has still yet to allow the marbles to return. The British Museum has stated that if the marbles are returned, then other countries would seek the repatriation of their antiquities and British museums would stand empty, devoid of any objects of interest. Greece has countered this by offering suitable exhibits which have not been seen outside Greek shores.

Please support their campaign and sign their petition. See www.marblesreunited.org.uk.

The Chosun Journal

The Chosun Journal is a non-profit making website dedicated to informing, provoking and mobilizing consciences for the sake of human rights in North Korea. Their purpose is to educate their readers about the lack of human rights and about what needs to be done to bring about this in a country that is probably far from people's minds. They support many groups, including 'Ton-a-Month' club which has collected over 50 tons of food for the famine victims of North Korea.

Please support them for they are one of many groups that are campaigning for human rights, something that so many of us take for granted - see their website www.chosunjournal.com.

Farmed Animal Action

Farmed Animal Action is campaigning for a UK ban and to initiate a EU ban on all live animal exports for fattening and slaughter following ample evidence which shows that the animals ensure extreme suffering through exhaustion, hunger, thirst, over-crowding and stress.

Sign their online petition and please support them either by fund raising or becoming a campaigner - they want an end to the suffering that is inflicted on farm animals.

No Third Runway

The British Government have decided to add a third runway to the South East England, in an overcongested airspace. Over 4000 homes and people will lose out to the greed of corporations that only have their pockets to fill. Campaign against this now!

Check out their website at www.nothirdrunway.co.uk
