We have just heard on South Today News that the RSPB ( Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) who owns the land in Surrey Heath are felling swaths of trees in the ‘hope’ that wildlife will return to the area. As you know it is our mission to protect and educate on the importance of the world’s rainforests but we also have a duty to get involved with groups and people that are concerned with needless felling of trees, sometimes due to make way for housing developments, sometimes a neighbour wants a tree felled due to their blocked view so we are concerned when this happens both in the UK and abroad.

In this instance the RSPB are lobbying hard to clear 135,000 acres of land in the UK for heathland and that would mean the chopping down of millions of trees in the process. TheĀ  RSPB who owns tha land on Surrey Heath, ( this is due to the public funding) are trying to encourage wildlife to the area and we commend this but not at the cost of the trees. It is imperative for the very survival of wildlife and humanity that all trees remain if we stand a chance of clearing up the mess we have made on this Earth. The RSPB may believe that they are helping but they are actually making it worse because if we do not have the trees then we are sealing our fate on this Earth and so in encouraging wildlife in this instance is a backwards act.

We would like to ask all those who are passionate about what is happening to the trees of the world to get involved and act. Below is a copy of the email we have sent to the RSPB but it would also be better that you personalise your email and give your views on this. We have also emailed Prince Charles who we have been in contact with in regards to the protection of the world’s rainforests and who is a conservationist.

Here is a copy of the article in the Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2009/sep/13/rspb-uk-charity-deforestation-birds

Here is the letter and the contact details for both are below. If you can help of have any info please add your comments or get in touch.

Thanks Guys.

We have just see a news report on South Today regarding the felling of the trees in Surrey Heath to make way for new species of wildlife. We would like to make our views known on this issue and ask that you reconsider your actions.
We are in serious trouble on this Earth, the more trees that are felled the more we are sealing our fate with regards to severe climate change. You may argue that it is the wildlife that you are protecting and indeed trying to encourage to return to this area but we say to you without a shadow of a doubt that your efforts to acheive this will be pointless for if trees are continually removed from the Earth there will be no wildlife to protect. It is due to the destruction of the world’s rainforests along with emissions that have got us into the mess we are in. It is imperative that all woodlands are protected and that no more trees be destroyed both in the Equatorial regions and the Northern Hemisphere. What we are looking at is catastrophe for all life on Earth. So we urge you to end this madness. We have been in contact with Prince Charles in the past with regards to the importance of the worlds rainforests and the protection of trees and we are aware that he is also a speaker for the protection of birds and we will also be sending this correspondence to him.
